A4: Jinshanling-Simatai Challenge

Our most popular tour and the trip that we¡¯re known for!

Jinshanling Great Wall:

The Great Wall at Jinshanling is one of the best preserved parts of the Great Wall with many original features. It got its name because it was built on the Greater and Lesser Jinshan (¡®Gold Mountain¡¯) Ranges. A tablet with the Chinese inscription for Jinshanling Great Wall was set into this section.

The Jinshanling Great Wall has not been repaired since 1570. It is a remote and relatively isolated section of the Great Wall. As there are relatively few tourists at Jinshanling Great Wall, it is a good place to explore on foot. If you are looking for breathtaking views with a relatively peaceful walk, then the Jinshanling Great Wall is very suitable for you.

Simatai Great Wall:

The Simatai section of the Great Wall is one of the few sections to retain the original appearance of the Great Wall. Incorporating a variety of characteristics of other sections of the Great Wall, Simatai also displays some unique features of its own. It is often described with the following five words: perilous, dense, diverse, artful, and peculiar.

With densely dispersed watchtowers snaking along the mountain ridges, Simatai looks spectacular. In 1987, Simatai was acknowledged by UNESCO as one the World Heritage Sites. Visit Simatai Great Wall, witness in person the magnificence and glory of this man-made masterpiece.

Note: At the present moment Simatai is closed for maintenance so for the time being we have developed new paths after recent inspections. You will still have the opportunity to walk between Simatai and Jinshanling.

Tour Itinerary:
Free hotel pick-up/drop-off and lunch included!

1. You will be picked up from your hotel between 7:30-8am, and from there we¡¯ll start our drive to the Simatai Great Wall. The drive will take about 3 hours.

2. We will arrive at Simatai, and your hike will take you about 4-5 hours to finish. The hike starts with the wall in a restored state, but the further east you go, the more the wall starts to revert to its natural, unrestored self. This will make for a great comparison between the will as it is presented to visitors, and with the wall that is left untouched, in its natural condition.

3. At the end of your hike your guide will be waiting for you, and from the wall we¡¯ll make a 10 minute drive to the Farmer¡¯s Restaurant, which is where we will celebrate your trek with a hearty lunch.

4. We¡¯ll then make the drive back to Beijing (about 3 hours), and along the way we¡¯ll pass the Olympic green area, which includes the Bird¡¯s Nest stadium and the Water Cube.

5. You will be dropped off at your hotel at no later than 6:00pm, ending your day¡¯s sightseeing.
